Its still an important question with important answers for employers and employees:
- Employers: Look for ways of creating dialogue that will allow you assess what’s important to you core workforce. You might be surprised that money isn’t chief among them.
- Employees: Use the performance review process to lobby for additional training opportunities. This is also great time to share you ideas about the direction of the team - just be ready to provide expound on those ideas if your boss takes the bait.
If someone challenged you to go a whole eight hours without looking at your phone, could you do it? How about for a beer?

What’s tied to the tether:
- When any of the ties are out of synch, the tether is considered “loose”. Loose tethers are expected - the environment ebbs and flows. However, firms that fail to tighten their ties lose vital relation with the tether.
